A revitalized the Russian player won his first trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour title, took control to create a third set.

He defended four early-game break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
