László Krasznahorkai has awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Magyar writer was recognised "for his compelling and visionary collection that, in the midst of apocalyptic dread, reaffirms the strength of literature."

He has produced five books and received countless further literary awards, for instance the 2015's International Booker Award, and the 2013's top translated work honor in Narrative for his first book Satantango, a avant-garde creation concerning the conclusion of the globe.

He is the 2nd Magyar author to obtain the prize following the former Kertesz Imre, who was awarded in the year 2002.

Born in 1954, Krasznahorkai obtained recognition in 1985 when he released Satantango, which he converted for the cinema in 1994.

This black-and-white drama, by Magyar cinematographer Tarr Bela, is notable for its seven-hour duration.

His additional novels include:

  • The Melancholy of Resistance (the late 80s)
  • "War and War" (1999)
  • "Seiobo There Below" (2008)

Nobel committee characterized Krasznahorkai as "an outstanding epic writer in the Central European tradition that reaches by way of Franz Kafka to Bernhard Thomas, and is characterised by absurdism and bizarre excess."

His 2021 novel "Herscht 07769" has been called as a significant modern Deutsch story, owing to its accuracy in portraying the land's social upheaval just before the pandemic.

This is a representation of a contemporary small town in Thüringen, Germany, afflicted by societal lawlessness, homicide and fire-setting.

"Gentle giant Herscht Florian is an parentless child, raised by a radical who has apprenticed him as a street art eraser.

"The Boss, a Bach fanatic, is furious that someone is spraying wolf symbol emblems across the memorials to the famed composer in their Eastern German municipality."

A review noted it as "therefore bleak from start to finish."

The writer's latest satirical work, "Zsömle Odavan", goes back to Magyarország.

The protagonist is 91-year-old Józsi Kada, who has a secret claim to the throne but has taken extreme measures to disappear from the planet.
